Requirements

Required Software

In this course we will be using Ableton. It has several versions, the simplest is Intro.
To learn more about features see here
https://www.ableton.com/en/live/feature-comparison/

For the purpose of the course Intro is enough. Suite is available in the lab.
If you decide to use your own laptop and purchase Ableton, there is an academic discount for the Standard and Suite versions.

You might choose to use a demo version for 30 days, but that will not last you till the final project.

Access to the Lab:
email Neal Bociek <mus-facilities@cloud.ucsd.edu> with request for lab access if you are not a music student enrolled in the course.

Additional requirements:
Bring headphones to the class.
Open soundcloud account and send an email with the link to your account.

Emails: send both to the Instructor and TAs (emails on the syllabus). Put [Mus173] as a tag on the email subject line.

Controllers:
We are not going to be specifically teaching or using controllers, but they are very handy for working with Ableton.

Akai MPK keyboards are ok for drum pads, faders and knobs. There are 5 in the lab
and can bring out more. We also have some Oxygen V2 keyboards and one Mackie MCU.
There is an Ableton Push for checkout as well.
